RI Future Firefighter
If you are interested in becoming a Firefighter/EMT in Rhode Island, THIS is the program for you!
Many fire departments in Rhode Island require you to be at least an EMT - Basic to apply and often times, obtain your AEMT- Cardiac certification after a year of employment. Others require your AEMT - Cardiac certification to apply!
With this course, you will be enrolled in both EMT Basic and AEMT - Cardiac.
The course includes the following:
1. EMT-Basic enrollment
2. Three tutoring sessions (EMT).
3. Automatic enrollment to AEMT-C on a date of your choosing
once you successfully pass the NREMT.
Program Details:
Part 1- EMT Basic Course:
EMT, also known as Emergency Medical Technician, is the foundation of EMS. If you're thinking of working in the field of EMS or maybe even a fire department, this is where you begin. Our EMT program has been taught since 2006 and proudly boasts the highest pass rates in all of Rhode Island. We are with you from the very beginning and stay with you through your career.
Formally called “EMT Basic” this is the entry-level EMT license required for you to move on to higher-level licenses like “Advanced EMT or Paramedic”. Over the course of 160 classroom hours and 20 online hours, you will learn the foundation of EMS.
This is a national curriculum and will allow you to test and become a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician as well as licensed to practice in the State of Rhode Island as well as test in other states.
The class consists of 2 evenings a week and various Saturdays. Weeknights will be 6 pm to10 pm and Saturdays will be 9 am to 4 pm.
This portion of the program includes the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support certification.
Part 2- EMT Advanced/Cardiac Course:
This is the next step in EMT Level certification. You will be enrolled in the next available AEMT-C course once you successfully pass the NREMT.
Our Advanced EMT-Cardiac Program offers a balance of didactic, clinical, and psychomotor skills in the classroom and in Hospital Emergency Medical Centers. This program covers Cardiology, Pharmacology, Behavioral Mental Health, and interventions such as Endotracheal Intubation and Intraosseous cannulation. You will also be certified in ACLS and PALS.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support, also known as ACLS, will certify you in treating life threatening emergencies using advanced medical procedures to the AHA standard. Pediatric Advanced Life Support, also known as PALS, is similar to ACLS, but focuses on the AHA standard for pediatrics patients.
In Rhode Island, Advanced/Cardiac level EMTs practice with extended skills that are taught in addition to the National Advanced EMT curriculum. These skills include: Intraosseous cannulation, Endotracheal Intubation, and an expanded pharmacological scope. This allows the EMT to hold a certification called "EMT Advanced/Cardiac", which is recognized only in Rhode Island.
The class consists of 2 evenings a week and various Saturdays. Weeknights will be 6 pm to10 pm and Saturdays will be 9 am to 4 pm.
