Refund & Cancellation Policy
American Safety Programs & Training, Inc.
Effective: 2026 Academic Year
Overview

This page summarizes our official Refund and Cancellation Policy in an easy-to-understand format. American Safety Programs & Training follows the standardized refund policy adopted by the Rhode Island Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner. For full legal details, please refer to the official Rhode Island proprietary schools regulations: Regulations Governing Proprietary Schools in Rhode Island.
How to Withdraw
To withdraw from any class, you must send an email notice to one of the following faculty members:
Steven Ardente - Director of Student Affairs
Shelby Nelson - Director of Administration
The date of your email will be considered your official withdrawal date and will be used to calculate your refund.
Refund Policy
In-Person Courses:

If you enroll in a class at American Safety Programs & Training, Inc. but need to withdraw for any reason, the first step is to send an email to the faculty members listed above in the "How to Withdraw" section. Your intent to withdraw from a class and/or cancel any IGW contract is not valid until this email is sent.
In the event you register for a class but submit your withdrawal before classes begin, there is a $100 cancellation fee to effectuate your cancellation. This $100 cancellation fee is also assessed for students with an IGW Solutions contract.
Please note: No IGW financing loan will be canceled with IGW until any applicable cancellation fee is received.

Once you start attending classes, the refund policy is calculated on the following prorated basis:

The total program cost is divided by the number of instructional weeks to determine the weekly rate. If a student withdraws after classes have begun, they are responsible for paying:

-
The tuition cost for the total number of weeks attended, based on the program’s weekly rate; and
-
A $100 cancellation fee, applied to all withdrawals made after the start of the program.

The total amount owed must be paid in full before any enrollment or IGW financing loan is canceled.
Prorated refunds are based on the class schedule, not the number of payments allotted under your IGW loan.

Example: A student enrolls in the 8-week CNA course, which $1,200. Therefore, each week costs $150 ($1,200/8 weeks = $150). In this hypothetical situation, the student withdraws during week 3.
-
The student is responsible for paying for 3 weeks, plus an additional $100 cancellation fee.
-
3 weeks of class multiplied by $150 (weekly class cost) equals $450, the total amount for number of weeks attended.
-
$450 plus the additional $100 cancellation fee equals $550. Therefore, the total amount the student would be responsible for paying is $550 before any IGW contract is cancelled.

Hybrid Courses:

All hybrid students are required to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure enrollment.

Once you start your class, the refund policy is calculated on the following prorated basis:

The total program cost (after any required deposit) is divided by the total number of scheduled instructional days to determine the daily rate. If a student withdraws after the program has started, they are responsible for paying:

-
The total number of all days of access up to the withdrawal date, calculated at the applicable prorated daily rate.
-
A $100 cancellation fee, which is added to the prorated tuition owed.
All outstanding balances—including prorated tuition and the cancellation fee—must be paid in full before IGW will cancel any enrollment or contract.
Prorated refund calculations are based on the program schedule and access period, not on the number or timing of payments made under an IGW payment plan.

Example: A student enrolls in an 12-month (365 days) AEMT Hybrid program. The total program cost is $2,100, meaning each day costs $5.75 after the required $300 deposit is received ($2,100/365 days = $5.75). In this hypothetical situation, the student withdraws after 125 days.
-
The student is responsible for paying for 125 days of access, plus the additional $100 cancellation fee.
-
125 days of access multiplied by $5.75 (daily program cost) equals $718.75, the total amount for the number of all days accessed.
-
$718.75 plus the additional $100 cancellation fee equals $818.75. Therefore, the total amount the student would be responsible for paying is $818.75 before any IGW contract is cancelled.

Pay In Full Policy for Paramedic Hybrid Students ONLY:

All Paramedic hybrid students are required to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure enrollment.

Student tuition is subject to a pro-rata refund policy. The pro-rata amount represents the total tuition and fees that the completed portion of the course/program bears the total length of the program/course.

Example 1: The tuition, fees, and other charges for a 90-day course are $1,000.00 and the student paid in full. The student decides to dropout after 15 days.

-
15 days (days of course access) divided by 90 days (total course length) equals 16.67% of the course completed.
-
16.67% (total course completion) multiplied by $1,000 (total course cost) equals $166.67.
-
The student would be required to pay $166.67 to account for the total number of all days of access as well as the total course completion at the time of withdrawal.
-
The refund in this case should be $833.33.

Example 2: The tuition, fees, and other charges for a 90-day course are $1,000.00 and the student paid in full. The student decides to dropout after 85 days.

-
85 days (days of course access) divided by 90 days (total course length) equals 94.4% of the course completed.
-
94.4% (total course completion) multiplied by $1,000 (total course cost) equals $944.00.
-
The student would be required to pay $944.00 to account for the total number of all days of access as well as the total course completion at the time of withdrawal.
-
The refund in this case should be $56.00.

Please note that these refund formulas DO NOT INCLUDE the non-refundable deposit or the price of any online or text materials purchased by the school and given to the student. All students are liable to pay for any and all ancillary learning material (deemed by the school) that are assigned/given to students at orientation or throughout the program/course.
Supplies & Additional Fees

Refunds for additional charges (such as supplies, text materials, tools, lab fees, or rentals) follow the same refund schedule as tuition. Items already used by the student do not qualify for a refund.
Refund Timing

Refunds are based on:

-
The last day of attendance, or
-
The date your withdrawal email was sent, whichever is earlier.

All refunds will be issued within 30 days of the effective withdrawal or termination date.
