Part 1- EMT Basic Course:
EMT, also known as Emergency Medical Technician, is the foundation of EMS. If you're thinking of working in the field of EMS or maybe even a fire department, this is where you begin. Our EMT program has been taught since 2006 and proudly boasts the highest pass rates in all of Rhode Island. We are with you from the very beginning and stay with you through your career.
Formally called “EMT Basic” this is the entry-level EMT license required for you to move on to higher-level licenses like “Advanced EMT or Paramedic”. Over the course of 160 classroom hours and 20 online hours, you will learn the foundation of EMS.
This is a national curriculum and will allow you to test and become a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician as well as licensed to practice in the State of Rhode Island as well as test in other states.
The class consists of 2 evenings a week and various Saturdays. Weeknights will be 6 pm to10 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 4 pm.
This portion of the program includes the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support certification.
Part 2- EKG Technician Course:
You will be enrolled in this portion of the program once you successfully pass our EMT Basic program.
EKG technicians (also known as cardiac monitor technicians) work in hospitals or clinics and provide direct patient care.
EKG technicians are an important part of any cardiology department. They help in routine physical exams, as well as screening procedures before a patient undergoes surgery. To do so, EKG techs use specialized equipment, such as EKG machines, to measure the efficiency of the heart. They may perform and administer electrocardiograms, stress testing, Holter monitoring, and telemetry monitoring tests.
This class is 6 weeks long. It is held every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
